Since 2012 · Kathmandu
Started by guides, not investors
Nepal Trekking Co. was founded by four Sherpa and Gurung guides who were tired of watching foreign-owned platforms take the largest cut of every trip they led.
Our story
In 2012, four guides — two from the Khumbu, two from the Annapurna region — pooled savings to register a small trekking agency in Thamel. The idea was simple: keep guiding decisions with people who actually walk the trails, and pay porters and guides fairly instead of squeezing margins to compete with resellers.
Fourteen years on, we're a Nepal Tourism Board registered operator (Reg. No. 84213) with 22 staff, a roster of 40+ regional guides, and a standing policy of capping every departure at 12 trekkers.
Guiding standards
- All guides hold Nepal Government trekking guide licenses and wilderness first-aid certification
- Porters carry a maximum 20kg, are insured, and are paid above International Porter Protection Group guidelines
- Every departure carries a satellite phone and a pulse oximeter for altitude monitoring
- Group size capped at 12 trekkers, with a 1:4 guide ratio
